The genealogy and musical roots of FIREFALL run deep into the fertile soil of American rock and folk rock music. It began with Woodie Guthrie and later Bob Dylan, evolving into the Byrds and the Buffalo Springfield. The genre established by these luminaries continued with Crosby, Stills and Nash, Manassas, the Band, Neil Young, the Eagles, Poco, Loggins and Messina, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons and Emmy Lou Harris, Dan Folgelberg, America and Firefall. Many of these participants mingled in the studio and on tour. Individually and collectively they created a sound that changed the world’s musical landscape. FIREFALL is one of the few surviving bands of this genre, remaining true to it’s founding vision and roots despite personnel changes over it’s thirty year history. The band transcends and embraces many industry labels - rock, soft rock, country rock, easy listening, unplugged, Americana and contemporary country.

Jim Babjak, Dennis Diken and original bassist Mike Mesaros grew up in Carteret, New Jersey, forging a friendship as teenagers through a mutual love of '60s rock 'n' roll and other vintage sounds. After meeting the similarly inclined DiNizio, the four formed the Smithereens, and won some local renown with a pair of independently released EPs, 1980's Girls About Town and 1983's Beauty and Sadness. The Smithereens were already a seasoned live act by the time they achieved surprise commercial success in 1986 with their first full album Especially for You, with spawned the MTV hits "Blood and Roses" and "Behind the Wall of Sleep." The band continued to reap considerable airplay, critical acclaim and fan loyalty with the subsequent longplayers Green Thoughts, Smithereens 11, Blow Up, A Date with The Smithereens and God Save The Smithereens, which yielded such enduring numbers as "Only a Memory," "House We Used to Live In," "Drown in My Own Tears" and "A Girl Like You."

Turning skeptics into believers time and time again, the story of the little engine that could comes alive in the musical career of Joe Gosman. He continually packs out venues from the hills of Tennessee, all across Virginia, and is steadily moving into the heart of North Carolina. Although he is a talented songwriter and an entertainer blessed with poise and personality to burn, these are not the characteristics that turn onlookers into fans and fans into friends. His genuine 'realness' onstage and off is what draws people to him and him to the people.
Joe simply states, "I love music and I don't function properly without it, but my love for people is greater. My friends, my family, and the people that are in my life help give me the air in my lungs. My music is a reflection of all things in my life."
