February 2009) - 2009 marks the 36th anniversary for the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival where every year hundreds of thousands of people celebrate at the festival’s many offerings! From galas to golf, wine tastings to sporting events, the festival offers something for everyone! The grand finale, Boardwalk Weekend, is staged along the beautiful Virginia Beach oceanfront where the boardwalk comes alive with plenty of palate tempting treats, fine arts and crafts, magnificent sand sculptures, three stages of musical entertainment, a parade and more! All who attend become immersed in the hospitality only Virginia Beach can offer.
This year’s events begin in March with the King’s Coronation Gala and continue with an international wine festival and golf tournament both scheduled in May. A tennis tournament takes place in June and in early in September, the famous Endless Summer Beach Bash takes over the historic Cavalier Beach Club. Festivities continue in September with events such as the Senior’s Gala, the Fall Wine Festival, and the Sandman Triathlon, all leading up to the festival’s grand finale, Boardwalk Weekend, Sept. 25 – September 27, 2009.

The king will make his royal appearance at the 14th Annual King Neptune’s Golf Tournament. Hosted by the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival, the tournament is held at the beautiful and pristine Bayville Golf Course. The tournament is limited to 36 Foursomes. This time honored event begins with a 1K open ocean swim, followed by a 14-mile bike race and concludes with a 5K run along the Virginia Beach Boardwalk in a grueling test of stamina and physical conditioning. Exact street location for the race’s 1K swim starting point will be determined on race day and will be at 17th or 33rd streets. Pre-registration is required. Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners in both the men and women’s divisions. Neptune Festival BOARDWALK WEEKEND Celebration

Events such as the internationally renowned North American Sandsculpting Championship lure residents and visitors from across the Commonwealth and beyond to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Daily outdoor concerts featuring a variety of live musical performances all weekend long keep 32 blocks of the boardwalk buzzing with excitement. Over 300 artisans are spread throughout the Boardwalk for the Neptune Art and Craft Show along with food vendors dishing out their finest guaranteed to please any palate.

Each year, the Neptune Festival attracts hundreds of thousands of people to the Virginia Beach oceanfront.
