August 20, 2019- Virginia Beach

From Russia, Latvia and the Czech Republic to Lithuania, Italy, South Korea and other faraway lands, sand sculpting masters from the world over will congregate in Virginia Beach when the Neptune Festival’s internationally renowned Sand Sculpting Championship returns Friday, September 27th at Neptune’s Land of Sand, located between 6th and 8th Streets on the Virginia Beach oceanfront. One of the largest sand sculpting competitions in the world, the world’s best sand sculptors transform piles of sand into works of art over the course of a three-day build, September 23rd through 26th.Viewings of these masterpieces begin September 27th and continue through October 6th. The International Sand Sculpting Championship is one of the most highly anticipated signature events of the Neptune Festival’s Annual Boardwalk weekend, this year held September 27th -29th.

Look for Neptune’s Land of Sand between 6th and 8th Streets on the beach, under a massive tent which is almost the length of a football field. The entrance is located at 7th Street. Visitors’ experience includes close-ups of all the action, meet and greets with the sculptors, “quicksand” competitions, unique photo ops, live music, shelter from wind and rain for viewing in any weather, and lights for evening viewing. The tent is both wheelchair and stroller accessible, ensuring the entire family can enjoy the amazing sand masterpieces.

Sandcastle-building enthusiasts and first-timers alike can learn from the professionals at free hands-on sculpting clinics on the beach. You’ll have access to simple tools and a sand setup for your own creation, with guidance from a master sculptor, John Gowdy.
