Boardwalk Weekend Events Honor Victims & Heroes of the May 31 Tragedy

Virginia Beach In remembrance and honor of those affected by the tragedy in Virginia Beach on May 31, 2019, the Neptune Festival invites visitors to the 46th Annual Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend (September 27-29) to join in grieving for the lives lost and celebrating the heroism exhibited by our first responders.

WE ARE VBSTRONG SANDSCULPTURE
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27—SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6
Outside Neptune’s Land of Sand, 7th Street on the Beach
A special sandsculpture will be displayed to honor the victims and pay homage to the first responders. It will be visible and accessible from the boardwalk outside the International Sandsculpting Championship tent.

Boardwalk Weekend visitors are invited to join the Neptune Festival in recognizing the heroism that Virginia Beach’s first responders exhibit every day and commemorate the lives lost in the May 31, 2019 tragedy. This event is free and open to the public. Those to be honored include the Virginia Beach Police Department, Virginia Beach Fire Department, Virginia Beach Emergency Medical Services, Virginia Beach Emergency Communications and Citizen Services, Virginia Beach Police Detectives Bureau and their families, along with the families of the victims of the tragedy. Those to be remembered include LaQuita C. Brown, Ryan Keith Cox, Tara Welch Gallagher, Mary Lou Gayle, Alexander Mikhail Gusev, Joshua O. Hardy, Michelle “Missy” Langer, Richard H. Nettleton, Katherine A. Lusich Nixon, Christopher Kelly Rapp, Herbert “Bert” Snelling, and Robert “Bobby” Williams.

CITY OF VIRGINIA BEACH EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAY
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4 | 10AM-8PM
7th Street on the Beach, Virginia Beach Oceanfront
All City of Virginia Beach employees (plus one guest, and free for children under 12) are invited to experience the International Sandsculpting Championship tent free of charge by showing their City Employee ID.
